My friend bites her nails awfully. She never has any white tips and is bitten down as far as possible. It's not a cure that I am looking for but whether it is possible for her to have a manicure. Can she have false nails fitted or is it impossible as there is hardly anything there to attach them to!?

When you have acrylic nail tips put on, they cut the nails right down first so that they look like they've been bitten! I always have acrylic nails and I love them. Many people warn that they damage your nails, but my bitten nails are always so horrible anyway, I don't mind. Provided you can afford to have the nails refilled every two weeks (approx £15-£18 depending on where you live), it's cool. I have mine quite short, with a plain french manicure style, as I like them to look natural but you can have really long talons if you like with fancy patterns and colours.

Yes, she definitely can have a manicure. As a matter of fact, having manicures may be just what she needs to make her start taking care of her nails. Once the nail technician has given her the manicure, she will probably put a coat of nail hardener on the nails. This might be enough in itself to give her second thoughts about chomping, but in case it's not, remind her that massaging the nail bed where it joins the finger will stimulate nail growth. This is something she can do herself at home with any sort of creme she has handy...

She could get a set of gel nails and having those nice nails might remind her not to bite. Her own nails would be growing underneath.
So it could be a win-win.
