read the user manual or look along the side of the computer for a small red window. If it has one then it has infrared.

Go into the Control Panel, click on the System icon, go to the Hardware tab. Open the device manager. If you have an infrared port, it will be listed in the installed hardware. Check your user manual or the manufacturer's website for usage details.

Normally pcs do not have infrared ports. You can connect an infrared dongle, to your USB, or serial port. But it is hardly recommended. If you can use Bluetooth, (ie. connect a bluetooth dongle)to a USB port, you get a better way to get connectivity. Often Mobile devices which have infrared port, also have bluetooth port.

Right Click on My computer>properties>Hardware>Device Manager. If is there any entry like IrDA then you have a infrared device, otherwise either you dont have it or your OS dont detect it.
