surley someone needs more information than a savings account bank details

If they know things like your date of birth, mother's maiden name and the form of your signature there is a slight risk they could obtain money from your savings account but still it is quite unlikely since most building societies and banks will ask for more ID (usually a passport / driving license) if they arrive at the bank till without a paying in/out book.

They do. In order to access the account they would need to pretend to be the account holder, which means they would also need a signature or fake ID. Many banks also have safeguards such as security questions.

One of the reasons for introducing chip and pin technology was to provide an additional level of security beyond signature check.

For savings acct access u usually need the passbook or ID or social security number. Or password if on-line.

theses days you have to answer a security question to access your information, so there is no point of having someone elses bank details. you need to know there personal lives too.

all fraudsters need is a few details and they can find out the rest ......
sure at the mo they only have numbers .....but with the use of the net and other criminals they could easily get ur address ,birth date , mothers maiden name ..n so on
dont give them a chance be vigilant

nope thy don't even ask for id with a check. a lot wont ask for id for any type as long as thy get paid or get a presumed debt

If you have a name and acct #/ routing number and are familiar with the proper protocol for transfer that is all that is required.
