1000mb is equal to one gb . So if its ram, they usually range from 512 mb -4gb ram, the higher the ram the better its going to respond. The procesor is usually mesured in "hertz" Same standard though If a processor is 3.4 mhz,its going to be better then one that is 3.4 mhz. Amd and intel are about the same. The Harddrive (which stores all the programs and lets you install and store stuff) is measured in gbs.) Dells are a great reliable brand. Alien wares are great also but helaciously expensive. I would look into buying a computer with a dual core procesor (at the very least), A computer with atleast 250 Gbs of Harddrive space. Also, Atleast 2 Gigabytes of Ram.

the type of ram you'll need depend on your computer bcos some RAM are incompatible with some PCs. So check the existing one on your PC. It could either be an SD-RAM or DDR memory. Whatever it is will dtermine which RAM to get for your PC. The capacity then varies (256MB, 512 MB & 1GB), depending on what you wanna get.

It look elongated like two popsicle sticks side-by-side, if you ask exact word-for-word what you wrote up there you would get better help from a local shop run by a Chinese guy (at least "what's the CPU/motherboard?") then a sales person in BIG national retailer.
If you have the manual, look for the PCxxxx design designation or DDR/DDR2xxx speed designation.

Several sites will tell you what you need; but most of them will try to sell you their brand which isn't necessarily the best buy. Here's a site from a reputable company: www.crucial.com/pcworld
I just had it run a scan and it accurately detected my system and told me what modules I could use to upgrade. If you don't buy from them make sure to write down the type exactly as some incompatible types have similar names. If you need DDR2 memory DDR won't work or vice versa.
