Terrorism is a disease. Any disease is to be treated from its cause and route. Treatment may be warfare/peace-fare.
Let us check the reasons for terrorism.
No religion is teaching or propagating terrorism. In almost all religions we can see most of believers are moderate and they like peace. The fundamental reason for terrorism is injustice to a society/group/individual. When we speak of justice, we are bothered about our own interest only. Justice should be just.
If we all are just, we can't see a single terrorist. If we see terrorist again, the next solution is warfare against such evil elements for the sake of society as a whole.

Some people think terrorism is a new phenomenon. It's not, but the only difference is that has become more common, more sophisticated and more widespread. Terrorism is warfare. It's a tactic of war. War can't be defeated with war, because war is a state of conflict. To end the conflict, people must decide not to fight. The end result of these conflicts is usually that citizens lose their freedom, and soldiers lose their life.

Warfare that kills and harms a large number of innocents while trying to kill a small group of terrorists is not a solution to terrorism because the innocents will have no sympathy for the victims of terrorism who went and killed innocents deliberately while claiming it's "only accidental and natural collateral damage." That thinking is totally illogical esp when anyone from the affected innocents becomes recruitable as a terrorist by experiencing violence from the belligerents to a conflict or become trapped in a war they were not initially a part of. Morally and practically speaking Militarism turning to warfare as a tactic is as morally bad and ineffective as the tactic of terrorism employed by extremists seeking to promote and achieve their goals and causes. Defeated totally? No. But you can sure slow it down if you remove the areas where terrorists can train unhindered. To totally defeat terrorism you have to cut the source of supply PERMENANTLY. That's not just weapons but money as well.

A general who's name I don't remember said you don't win a war by defeating an army. You wil by eliminating the other sides ability to wage war. No money= No training, no manpower, no supplies, and no weapons.

You have to define the word terrorism before you can consider the operational method to approach it. Very few military political actions have succeeded through out history. The real problem is what is left behind. So the social and political actions behind it have to be addressed.

Violence can be curbed only by the means of a more powerful violence. You will have to erase the cause of violence, which is achieved only by using more force and power. There are two types of violence. One is constructive violence and another is destructive violence.
