My husband retired from the Air Force after 21 years, and my brother-n-law got out after 8 years. I know that this is a tough decision to make. Moreover, most people, regardless of what they choose, do have some regrets either way.

I think that the most important factor for you to consider, is whether or not you can find something better in the civilian world... and I don't just mean money. I would look at job benefits such as medical and educational... vacation time... etc... Try to really get an acurate picture of what life would be if you were no longer in the military... the good and the bad.

Also, you should consider the benefits of getting out such as no deployments or hardships placed on relationships that are caused by the military lifestyle. I would make a detailed list of pro's and con's and be honest. While not everything in the military is grand... neither is it horrid.

Last, and most importantly, seriously evaluate where you would want to relocate to and make a list of pro's and con's for that place. I would talk to people in that area that are about your age or with your skills and see what that area really has to offer you.

I know that I probably didn't give you very many new ideas... but making a detailed list of your pro's and con's sometimes helps you to see what is really your best option. Also, consider what your attitude is towards a career in the military. Do you want to serve your country longer than you already have? Is your current job affecting your attitude or outlook on life? Do you enjoy your job? Remember... if you think that it is tough deciding whether or not to stay in after 6 years... wait until you hit your 10 year reenlistment. Well, good luck and best wishes on your decision. I hope that I helped a little.

Your question should ask whether you should make a career out of military service. If you reenlist at this point, by the time your next enlistment ends, you will have reached the halfway point to minimum retirement.

If you enjoy your job and if you do it well, then stay in until retirement. Look into programs that allow you to attend college while still in the military. A college degree might lead you to OCS. At the very least, the degree will help with promotions.

Good luck!

dude you should stay in. everything outside sucks. all my friends who left the military are struggling. Go active guard. I have a friend who does that. He says its like active duty without the bullshit. the military isnt bad, they take care of us. dont listen to the liberal ******* trying to pursuade you, they have no idea.

Ultimately it is all up to you, if you enjoy it then stay. Maybe you would like to be stationed somewhere else?
