Im 18 yo and i study on high school and will spend 2 more years there (dont be surprised, we have different school system and i went to school one year later). I used to be an excellent student at elementary school (this lasts 9 years here). Now, at high school, my grades are terrble, mainly from Maths, i almost failed this year! However, i dont think im stupid, because i love learning about different things but Maths and Chemistry are something i cant understand! (maybe its caused by the fact that i attend very difficult school and we learned more than students at other schools). The problem is i dont know what to study at university! I wanted to become a psychologist, but now i realised i dont like people very much. Id like to do something with nature/ecology but as i said, i hate chemistry. Is there some job in these area where i doint need to study chemistry? I also have problems with my weight and i get tired easily so i dont think i could work in forest or so.What should i do?

You say you have two more years in school, so I think your preparing for university may be a little early. Near the end of your second to last year and in the summer before your last year, you visit and kind of audition universities and you apply and are accepted in your last year. At least, that is the schedule in the US.

That schedule is for those that have a pretty good idea what they want to do. For others not so sure, there is a path that is different. If you go to a community college, you can take generic liberal arts programs and as you try different electives you may find something that suits you.

It is best to get in a career that you have some passion for, it makes the work easier and you better in it.

Some take a year off and work and discover that school is a better option and go back after a year later than they graduated.

Ideas for jobs that do not involve people or that involve people that it is OK to not like: Criminal Justice, Policeman, Lawyer, Prison Guard, Landscaping, Construction, Production Line laborer. Believe it or not, Singer, Comedian and Entertainer do not involve people as much as you'd think. You can be reclusive and not have contact with people and entertain them. The stage and lights insulate you from the audience and you must act engaging, but you don't need to actually engage!

This is what I did before entering college. I took a college catalog. In the us they have them. They tell you all the classes that you have to take to get a cetain degree and what the classes are about. Read and see if you are willing to take these classes. You do have to be willing to jump some hoops to get what you want. You can get an easy degree, but you will get the same job as you would without a degree in many cases. Look on monster.com and other search engines and see what jobs are out there and what qualifications they need. You really need a trade of some sort in this day and age. Can you fix a computer? Can you do health care? Can you teach? (not a big money maker in the US, but a trade). Can you fix a sink or a car. You can get good money for trades. Biology in the US go ahead and have fun with that one and then you can join the people who are working with the people who have no degress and are really frusturated. I worked with them. They are overeducated clerks. I would have loved that major. Avoid the hard stuff and you get no good job. Just get a tutor and get a job for your future or a trade. Do think about your future. A job is not going to magically appear. There are people with college degrees and psychology degrees working along people with GEDs making the same salary. It is a sad true fact. Education is great, but it does not lead to a job. You can ask an advisor and not a psychiatrist/psychologist. A real school advisor and quit apologizing for what you did with school in the past. Some of the most sucessful people in the world were horrible in school.

You are not alone. Many people at your age are struggling with deciding what to do with life. You say you don't like people. Maybe you need more practice socially. I am an introvert but I work as a counseor and meet over a hundred new people a month. I need time to recharge my batteries.

I used to think I might make a good forest ranger because I was an angry young man. As I have dealt with my issues, I have become more sociable. Still need alone time, though.

You are not stupid. I heard or read somewhere that Einstein had trouble with math in school.

Take it easy. You don't need to chose right away if you are not sure. Take a holiday. Go have fun somewhere. Let your head clear. Come back to school refreshed.

I was never good at Chemistry and only did fairly in Mathematics, yet I graduated from a top University and I attend Law School now. Don't let your high school experience deter you from going on to further education.

The only job I can think with your qualifications would be as a part of a national park, or if you like the ocean, you could join the coast guard/navy.

So dont fret, there nothing to stop you from going to school again or changing your path in the future. Dont forget you have alot at your fingertips, take advantage of it, it is a true gift!As to your grades, maybe a talk with your teacher explaining this, she may be able to help pinpiont the problem with you so you can get your chin up...and grades.......
Dont fret! Also, Ive heard people change their majors all the time!

Study and raise your gpa. Also, in Psychology, the major requires statistics and math skills. It is data driven. You will need the statistics for research methods. You also have to be good in english and writing, becuase you will do alot of technical writing in the APA format. But, you can do it. You are young. Take more math classes. Without good math skills it is hard to grasp complicated concepts in science.
