I have lived here for over 20 years and there's no way I would go back to that drizzly little island again - called England!

It is a very nice country I think, I am living here now. But it is not easy as saying oh it is so great because it has all those things.
There are plenty of problems, and many dangers that are present. Of course it is reasonably safe for some people that stay in the same circuit. But the dangers that exist, caused by many different problems in society, should not be underestimated.
Some people have bad experiences and thus will be less enthusiastic about the country, which is understandable, but the country is definetly is not crap and has much to offer. Let us hope that the problems can be solved over time.

I agree. I cannot believe that people point fingers at the crime in SA when they ignore the crime on their own doorsteps. The amount of crime in London and the UK is astonishing especially the fact that it is children that are doing the stabbings etc. and what for....a mobile phone, a pair of trainers, a puffer jacket. Not that i am justifying any form of violence what so ever but the crime in South Africa is related to poverty. Here it is simply spite and greed. Laziness to work or earn your money to buy those things.
South Africa is a beautiful country it has beautiful people and will again be prosperous if the rest of the world would let it move on and stop harping on the past. It is a democratic country now and wants to move forward. Get a grip people, the South Africans that lived through apartheid have moved on years ago, I wish the rest of the world (who have never lived in SA) would do so too.
Cape Town in my opinion is the most stunning.
I want to encourage everyone to go to SA, just be sensible like you would everywhere else you go.

I doubt that you are in a position to make such a statement having never lived "everywhere in the world." The problem in South Africa is the violent crime and the corrupt Government. Not everybody thinks South Africa is crap and in fact it has some great tourist sites. They are useless at Football and Rugby so there is no decent sport and people I speak to here do not find South Africa cheap. When you grow up and perhaps travel then you will be in a better position to make a call.

i've got had a tumbler of wine and that i'm feeling jovial on the Friday night. South Africa is a superb place. Pity with regard to the government. Cape city is the main suitable place to come back, as they cater for vacationers and the protection is exceedingly sharp in places frequented by utilising vacationers, like the Waterfront. e book by a vacationing corporation and you'd be certain which you have a greater useful possibility of traveling properly.

I don't think that South Africa is crap. I've heard lot of good things about it. In fact, if I won a free trip to anywhere in the world, I would pick South Africa! The only reason that I have not already vacationed there is becasue the airfare is really expensive from the U.S.

I love living in South Africa! This country is truely an amazing place with so much beauty! If only we didnt have a high crime rate things would be even better!
I have lived in South Africa my whole life and have never been a victim in crime! Every country has their own problems and crime is it for South Africa.
The crime however does not change the love for my country because there are so many other positive aspects in our country that is wipes the negativity away!

I lived in Joey's for 9 years and I would agree with you, with one proviso - There were no Afrikaners.
I am very sorry, I now have several Afrikaans friends (I met them all overseas) but all my time there I never met one I liked.
It is the most beautiful country with a great lifestyle and standard of living, and I can still see the Drakensberg mountains in my dreams - but I would never go back.
Sorry I had to be so honest, South Africa is full of great people, it's just that small percentage that ruin it for everyone else.
I may still dream about the scenery, but I still have nightmares too.
(PS. I am not Black, I am White)

I'm a South African living in London, and unlike most people I didnt come here because of crime or racism (there's a HELL of a lot of crime and racism in London too). In fact I think that South Africans have come a LONG way in term of our attitudes towards each other. The vast majority if South Africans are lovely, beautiful people who want to make the country work well.
I've done most of what I came to London to do-get international work experience in my field and travel. In February 2007 I'm going home to Cape Town and I cant wait to see my clost friends and family. Of course I miss the gorgeous scenery as well.
My one concern is unemployment. I didnt find it a problem finding work in London, but I'm so afraid that I'll be unemployed for a long time before I find work again. In the meantime I'll pass some time on the beach. :-)
