I will tell you what it is like: When a friend then stays your friend after hearing about such a private part of yourself, you have found a true gem in life. When a friend ignores you or outrightly is hostile towards you, then you know that not only was that person not much of a friend, but you've been allowed to see into the sick world of his or her family and how they treat friends. It's sometimes a shocking thing to behold.

If a person is gonna quit being a friend because you have 'come out' then they are not a friend. You'll make all sorts of new friends so it is their loss, those that do not wish to associate with you anymore. Actually I never had that many friends to begin with so it didn't truly matter - - - and no one thinks of me as 'gay' since I am a slovenly butch type. Peace.

One of my best friends came out to me my first year in college. We have been friends since kindergarten and we still are friends. As, a matter of fact she was a bridesmaid in my wedding recently. I love her the same way I always have that is how I can tell that our friendship is real and that is how you will be able to tell also.

Think of it as a way to clearly separate the true friends from the people you don't want to be hanging out with anyway.
