In addition to the difference of being from different countries, having a .com id means you get to know any new feature of yahoo, much before others.

The one with the .com is registered in the yahoo.com and the person with the .co.in is registered in the yahoo India, no matter where both live.

its not because of the difference of the country i am sure,as i have .com and my friend has co.in and we live in the same city,maybe,the reason is that more people could use their mail service,as com and co.in r different,more people would be able to join yahoo,

simple! a person with @yahoo.com is having an account of an old version or a US version... while an @yahoo.com.in would mean your having an acount in yahoo at indonesia/india i dont know where your place is at
like mine im from philippines so my account would be @yahoo.com.ph
