THere are several points in the Bible that seem to indicate that Jesus was socialist minded- after all, didn't he praise the beggar over everyone else, when she gave some of what little she had, yet scorned the rich people giving bunches of gold? Isn't this him saying that one should tax rich people more than poor people?
He also seemed to be against capitalism when he got enraged about people selling stuff on the Temple stairs.
Any other examples to show Jesus political persuasion, republican or liberal?

Okay, I never read more than one of the few first pages, but I am an atheist after all.

But was he really neutral? I think not. I'd say he would be very supportive of welfare and such liberal things.

It's really confusing, but here is some things that you need to remember:

The word liberal, -means to liberate, break free of the bonds that hold one down. Liberal today means give free money to lower classes from the upper classes. By the way, these lower classes are now worse off than ever, and are bound / enslaved to a welfare system, that they can't break free of.

In the Bible, Jesus praised the woman for giving all that she had (money). She wasn't a beggar, nor did she become a beggar, since all her money was gone. I think of it like money was a luxury of buying things in the marketplace, but really, she had all the food she could grow and shelter. I can't find one verse that 'gold' corrupts people, other than the idea that the richer people oppress the poorer people, - but that's a matter of justice, not social classes.

The Mosaic law required folks to come to the temple and offer some sort of sacrifice. The "money changers" in the temple were encroaching on sacred grounds, and Jesus took a dim view of the corruption of the whole idea of remembering what the sacrifice was suppose to be about.

Jesus advocated 'change' in the hearts of believers. (liberate, as is the conservative's view of liberate.)
Christianity / laws appear to be the bedrock of western society. We need to conserve this, - not be liberated from it.
Jesus came to fulfill the law, - not abolish it (conservative).

What you see now, as in abortion and prayer-in-schools, TV programs is that conservatives have taken an activist appoach and advocate change. The liberals want to conserve the status-quo (abortion) and don't want change. So the idea of liberal / conservative is better addressed as right wing or left wing.

And lastly, for the woman caught in adultery, the (man) mob wanted to stone her. Yet the O.T. dictates that the man AND woman caught need to be stoned togeter. So conservative Jesus, keeper of the law, would have been against her (illegal) stoning.

Jesus would be a Democrat ..after all he was a blue collar worker ((carpenter) and probably a member of his local union hall the republicans are anti union...If Jesus of Nazareth was anything, he was an extraordinary friend of the downtrodden, definitely a Liberal, whose advocacy on their behalf so infuriated the ultra-Conservative religious and political leaders of his day that they had him killed to prevent the public from hearing the very liberal teaching that you will see quoted in Jesus' own words here on this web site!

Those who actually know what the Bible says about the life and teaching of Jesus, should recognize that far from being like Jesus of Nazareth, today's "Religious Right" are much more like the kind of clerics who battled this revolutionary prophet from the day he opened his mouth until the day they had him nailed to a cross.

Separation of church and state of course isn't a element to you. Please help it.O yea, the only guy or woman to tax the wealthy in an economic disaster grow to be Herbert Hoover, and all of us comprehend how that went. Why interior the hell must you tax the wealthy greater, while the certainty of the problem is in doing so, there money will circulate in a foreign country, and not stay in American. don't get me incorrect, they must be taxed, yet in certainty the wealthy pump money into the economic device. Many wealthy human beings artwork fairly perplexing to be the place they are, so please do no longer tell me they ought to "supply back," because of the fact, fairly frankly, what interior the hell did they take? And what makes you assert that McCain would not help the well being of the yank human beings. You declare the he would not help training, equality, etc. He stands up for Obama while racists human beings lash out. specific i'm enjoying devil's propose, and no i'm no longer republican. Jesus might have pronounced to no to the two events, yet he might leaned greater in the direction of Republicans, professional-existence every physique? i'm advantageous in saying that Jesus would not help abortion.

It's hard to transfer what Jesus taught in that day to present times, politically speaking.

Example; Because he saved the woman caught in the act of adultery, does that mean he would be against ALL death penalty cases?

And, if you noticed, while he saved her, he didn't back down on saying she was wrong. ("Go & sin no more.") I can imagine liberals screaming, "Who are you telling her what to do with her own body!"

He obviously wanted the poor to be taken care of, but does that mean he would have wanted the government to be in charge of it? And 50% of the rich man's income being confiscated to pay for it? That sounds more like Robin Hood than Jesus Christ!

He said you have to pay your taxes, but would he have voted for a politician who advocated fixing things by higher taxes?

He taught obedience to the government, but does that mean he wanted a big government?

I can't imagine Jesus being anything but disgusted by mid to late- term abortions, but the Bible is not specific on the subject. The issue of "when life begins" would have to be answered, first.

But as far as issues like trade unions and strong regulation of business, strong environmental regulations, animal rights & gun control, it's hard to say, exactly.

Jesus was extremely liberal. His liberal teaching was a direct threat to the religious establishment of his locality and time. This is why he was killed. Jesus has been called "an extremist for love," and love is an inherently liberal concept. By the way, "liberal" means 1) open handed (generous) and 2) open minded (learning oriented). In his radical promotion of love, Jesus was liberal in the extreme.

The historical figure of Jesus was not only a liberal, but a radical libertarian. That and a Jew. In his time he caused some upheaval that the (then right winged) establishment couldn't deal with and fought. Strange of course that the libertarian of the is the idol and political base of the right winged extremists of today. Speaking of torn and distortion of the original idea...

You've really twisted things.
No one was ever more conservative than Jesus.
Individual giving to the poor is a conservative
concept.
Jesus and his father were carpenters who had their own little capitalist business.
He also encouraged the poor to get at and take care of themselves.
He spoke out against lazy people, rich or poor, who lived off other peoples' hard work.

Jesus was neither. Jesus defied political labels. You might check out the first link below for a new site I'm starting to annoy people who argue over which party is Jesus' favorite. :-) I hope it will make people think.

Jesus was clearly a liberal. He helped the poor, he didn't set up a business to employ them and argue that they were better off on his slave wages than before he was in business. And OF COURSE he has a right to make money!

He also didn't further enrich himself by saying that he was helping the poor through trickle down supply-side economics.

I don't know how the Republicans co-opted an entire religion. Brilliant politicians, stupid religious leadership.

when jesus was @ the well and the known prostitute approached him .he did not pass condesending judgement on her. instead he tried to console her and let her know that he would forgive her of her transgressions. i think this is a prime example of jesus obviously being more liberal minded. if he would have been what i see out of most republicans now. he would have told her that she was a piece of crap that deserved to go to hell and then he would have ordered her to be stoned to death!! yes i say jesus was a liberal!!
