THEY DON'T EAT THE COW (BEEF) BECAUSE IT INVOLVES KILLING IT WHICH IS WHAT THEY DON'T WANT TO DO
BUT MILKING DOES NOT HURT THE COW SO THIS IS OK AND THEY DRINK THEIR MILK

Milk is not a living creature. Nothing is harmed when the cow gives milk. Like everywhere, there are many levels of devotion and committment. Some keep more strict ways than most. India is a vast melting pot of wonderful ideas and beliefs--not one homogeneous nation following a single thought. Many religions are practiced in India. Hindu philosophy opens it's arms to all.

My guess would be that milking the cow doesn't hurt it, and in fact I have heard that it can be uncomfortable and even dangerous for the cow to have a too-full udder. The vegans that avoid milk because of conscience do so because thay believe that milking a cow is either by definition cruel (laughable) or the methods in the US (and other industrialized countries?) used are cruel (maybe, maybe not; if it was that bad you would think the government or someone would step in, but you never know)

Not only hindus in India refrain from eating beef, but Hindus worldwide. What confuses me is that "some"hindus dont eat beef for other reasons than that of "the cow being their mother".They use such phrases as "sis, yuck, gross and say its filth."Why?The same cow provides milk, cheese and butter, whom hindus all over the world cannot live without.(ps.not all Hindus)just the ignorant one's.They need to define why they do not eat beef, the way Muslim reasons are for not eating pork.
