It is either because they know you well, or they think of you as a mere piece of 5hit. Case in point, my brother has embezzled ober $55, 000 from me and I may die because I don't have any money for medical care.

Because they are the ones that have the ability to really hurt you. If something hurtful were to be said to you by, as it were, a passing stranger the remark would not really affect you as you do not know the person saying it. If, however, the hurtful thing is said to you by someone you know very well and whom you care about, the remark is more likely to really hurt you simply because you know this person well and they in turn know you well so therefore there must be a lot of truth in the remark.

Family members have known you since you were borned. They also wants to protect you from harm. Whether you need that protection or not, depends on you. However, as family members, they tend to want to protect. Too protective is no good - of course. To do this, family members tend to be 'honest' and can be 'truthful'. Honesty and truths - as you know, can be hurtful. Unlike friends who may want to tell you things you like to hear, family members wants to protect you. You have to be the judge of the hurt. Is it real or maybe your family members are indeed trying to communicate with you what your minds, heart, eyes and ears to blind to?

I would say: judge based on whether its the truth (can be painfull) or half truths or outright lies (which is always pleasant and maybe to increase your vanity).

Good luck.

Maybe they're just trying to help and what they're saying isn't what you want to hear (whether or not they're right). Your family's opinion matters most to you so you deal with it differently than you would the opinion of a stranger. Your feelings get hurt but you need to listen, then decide for yourself it what they say is beneficial. Try not to be so emotional.

It hurts us more, cuz they ARE family. We dont expect it from them and when they do it, it shocks us, and yea, it hurts real bad, cuts like a knife, and it goes straight to the heart. Been there, had it done. Dont have anymore to do with them now. Gotta stay away from the negative, even if it comes from family.

Because when a stranger says something hurtful, you can say "F you too- like I care what you think!" But, when it comes to family, deep down you really do care what they think.

And family is so close to you that they are able to say things that really hurt because they know exactly how to push your buttons.

Because they are the only ones who know you can never totally get rid of them. They're always related! But seriously if you look deep into it you might find what they're saying is the truth. They're the only ones who can actually tell you this because they love you.

For me, it's because they are the ones upon whom you can count on to love you unconditionally. And if their attitude towards you does an about-face, you'll surely take notice and become hurt.

Its a difficult question to answer but I guess its because they know you inside out and will say the exact same things that you don't want to hear.
