At that age they need 8-10 hours. Your child can be timed, how long does he normally sleep? Adjust bedtime accordingly, so that he can wake up normal and be awake for breakfast. If he sleeps 10 hours and must be on the school bus at 8, have him be in bed by 9PM and get him up at 7AM, see?
Then keep the schedule the same through the weekend and holidays, as it is not good to upset the sleep cycle of children.

Depends on the age my daughter was in bed by 7:00 -7:30 till she was 8yrs old the it went to 8:30 then when she hit 12 it was 9:30 and is still going to bed at that time at 13. She gets enough sleep so she isn't sleepy in class and she wakes up at 6:15 and isn't grumpy or tired. Kids need 8 to 10 hrs of sleep for proper development.

Eight o'clock sounds good to me. About 7 I would start a bath, followed by brushing the teeth, then picking clothes out for school the next day, make it a relaxed ritual and finally after telling everyone good night, saying prayers and then a bedtime story, there are tons of age appropriate books for kids.

I know for me, when my son was in 1st grade I would start a bed room routine @ 7:30 and he was in bed by 8pm. This was to include, bed time rituals and as well as bed time stories. But I am a firm believer that one parents differently then others - also that every child requires different routines. A parent knows what is best for their child.

Kids that age need 10-12 hours of sleep so as long as your child is getting that you can decide the time they get to sleep. But routine is good for everyone especially the child.

My kids are 10 and 14 and I still start them at 7:30. They need to get teeth brushed, pj's on, sometimes a bath. The 10 year old has to be in bed by 8:30. The 14 year old has to be in bed by 9:00pm. They need their rest!

Well first grade gets out about 2pm in most places so you would prepare a healthy snack they can use their fingers to eat. Then go over any homework to get it done.Practice their sight words for their test(if applicable). Cook dinner around 6pm. Give them a bath, read them a story and tuck them in bed around 7:45-8:00pm. That seemed to work for me,it doesn't for everyone.
