I always base my favorite brands by how they fit my body. We all have unique forms and some designers cater to those. For instance, I need jeans that are not petite but not too long either. At the same time, they should be straight-legged to make me look taller, and slightly roomy in the thigh and seat (not overly though to make me look bigger). Well, I found that Style & Co. Jeans at Macy's stores fit "perfect"! However, I know that they would never work on my very narrow-hipped, tall friend. She looks awesome in other brands. My mom wears Wal-Mart junior's lines like a queen. She looks amazing in them. So, make a budget, find the brand for you through lots of trying on, and watch for sales. I haven't had too much luck for finding the "right" clothes for me on Ebay but you never know! Also, once you find a brand that is good for you, it is easier to request clothes as gift options for Christmas, birthdays, etc.
Also, you should watch TLC's "What Not to Wear"...yeah, the prices are out there, but if you are the creative type, you can mimik those designer clothes looks with some lower-end items.
Have fun shopping!!

Instead of looking for a brand, search by your size,
And put in a maximum price-lower left

if you are looking for yourself, why don't you go to your local thrift or resale shop. you may turn up your nose thinking about it, but my friend goes to goodwill and resale shops and buys name brand items to sale at a huge mark up on eBay. she bought a pair of lucky jeans at resale for 8 dollars and sold them for 80 just last week. anyway, do the leg work and get it cheaper.

try going for lesser known Asian brands ... such as mizuno, yakuzi and others ... they might still come cheap now ... but they're a long term investment
