ARP = Address Resolution Protocol.
This is a protocol used by Internet Protocol (IP) to map IP addresses (eg 153.55.101.62) to MAC addresses (eg 00-02-44-35-CD-94).
IP addresses are used in routing, MAC addresses are used in switching.

Address Resolution Protocol. USed for resolvnig IP addresses from MAC addresses. RARP does the reverse, i.e. resolving MAC via IP addresses.
