I just had my 20 week ultrasound and they spotted that the baby's intestines are harder than they should be. They told me this could be a symptom of Down's Syndrome (which my AFP test was negative) or CF or an infection that I may have passed to the baby. Or it could just be nothing at all and go away. My options are to have CF screening and bloodwork (to rule out the infection), have an amnio done or do nothing and just wait and see... Has anyone had this happen to them? What did you do and if you havent had this done what would you do in my case? I had the CF testing and bloofowrk done... The bloodwork for infections was neg but still waiting for the CF results...

BTW, I am 24 with my first pregnancy, none of the disorders mentioned run in either family and I have had NO complications or
problems with the pregnancy up to this point...

It's always better to have the tests done and hope for the best. With the advances in technology, if there is something wrong, the doctors may be able to correct it in-utero.

Good luck and congratulations on the baby!

I'm glad there was no infection, so that's ruled out. Hope the CF results come back OK too. Regarding Down syndrome, it's a matter of personal preference to do an amnio, but you know it carries a slight chance for miscarriage so do you really need to know before the birth? Does it matter that much to you? You are going to be a great mom no matter what, I can just tell!

Good luck to you.

50% of fetal echogenic bowel is associated with a normal outcome at birth. I wouldn't worry about it too much hun...Doctors will make sure your baby will be fine. But I do however advice you do ALL test as a precaution.

it truly is an exceptionally technical question basically your scientific companies would be waiting to respond to :) don't be terrified of the amnio, there is an exceptionally small threat something might desire to flow incorrect, truly the prospect isn't as undesirable as human beings look to think of. it is going to likely be your determination in case you have it needless to say, inspite of the undeniable fact that it would probable help your docs practice if that they had all of the tips they are in a position to. solid good fortune !
