If you have active herpes lesions at the time that you are about to deliver, you will have to have a C-section. The herpes virus can infect your child, and your baby will develop herpes lesions over its entire body by passing though the vaginal canal when you have an active infection.

More than likely you will have a C-Section, it's ok, you will still have a close bond with your child. I don't have genital herpes but had a C-Section, see it can happen to anyone. Best thing is your baby comes out healthy. Talk to the OB/GYN, especially check if the medication you are taking for the virus can be passed through the placenta to the baby, which may cause side effects. Check out these links, I hope they help you. Good Luck.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

YES you may have complications but if you deliver vaginally, buta C-section is safe. You might experience a breakout or two because being pregnant is a stress on your body.

TELL YOUIR DOCTOR and request a C-section.

Yes. It can pass to the child through vaginal birth. You would likely have to have a ceasarian. Check with your doctor.
