Pounds is abbreviated lbs because the origin is in the Latin word libra, which could mean both balance scales (hence the symbol for the astrological sign Libra, which was named after a constellation that was thought to resemble scales) and also a pound weight, for which the full expression was libra pondo, the second word being the origin of our pound.

As so many have correctly said LB is the Latin abbreviation for Libra and the Roman weight measure was Libra Pondo.
LB is still used as the pound weight. Pondo became pound.
Incidentally, £ S D derives from Libra (pound), Shilling (s) and Denarius (Roman coin)
In measurement lb is the correct abbreviation. e.g. a 2 lb hammer
In any system of measurement the Number is followed by the UNIT e.g. 65 kg, 3000 kHz,150 Ohm, 240 V
The plural form should only be used in the written manner, e.g. He was buried six FEET deep. He ran a hundred METRES in 10.2 SECONDS,

The English adopted the Roman system of coinage and also weight. A Librum became a pound, both a weight of approximately 454g, and a unit of currency. The plural of librum is libra, but the abbreviation LB is often (incorrectly) written as LBS when used in the plural.
The symbol £ for pounds currency, incidentally, is a stylised L.

It comes from the latin word "libra", meaning scales, which is also a Roman unit of measurement that is roughly equivalent to a pound. The abbreviation of a libra is lb.
Since that measurement is just about the same as a pound, the abbreviations "lb" and "lbs" are just carried forward for pounds.

It means that the only way to really enjoy life and make sense of it is to not make sense of it at all, but to release the infinity of the human experience. It recommends to become completely unfeeling to test if you will be able to accept the sensation of complete nothingness. It explains that even if you do this, the world will always revert to "drama", or the act of participating in the human experience, so it will never be a permanent solution to remove yourself from reality. Also, laughter and chocolate are pretty cool.

It is Imperial Pounds. One pound = 454grams,
2.2 lbs = 1 Kg.
So 50 Kg = 110lbs
Does that help?
