Yeah!!!

Similar thing happened to the Australian born Croatian Keeper Joey Didulica...

On April 24, 2006, Didulica was sentenced to a fine of 60,000 euros on the count of physical injury resulting from negligence, for slamming Rapid Wien's Axel Lawaree at a Vienna derby in May 2005. Lawaree refused to accept an apology from Didulica, who is also obliged to pay him 1,000 euros as a compensation for his personal suffering. The sentence is however not yet final. Didulica was previously already given an eight-match suspension by the Austrian Football Association for that foul.

some examples fo violence you might be interested in are:: 1) the Pacers/Pistons NBA game last year where some players went into the stands to confront fans. Heavy suspensions were handed out, I'm not sure about criminal charges. 2) the incident at US Cellular Field in Chicago two years ago where a fan charged the field and tackled the Royals 1st base coach. 3) the Maple Leafs Tie Domi beating up a fan who was taunting him while he was in the penalty box in Philadelphia in an NHL game. 4) Todd Bertuzzi of the Vancouver Canucks assaulting Steve Moore in an NHL game 2 years ago. Moore was injured and hasn't played since.

Sports players automatically accept that a certain amount of contact is necessary and expected in sport that wouldn't ordinarily be tolerated say in the street. But if someone ever crossed that line that is an encroachment on your person, you bet you can hit him with a big fat lawsuit for assault and battery!

Yeah, of course.

Zidane has been very lucky because Materazzi didnt charge him for assault. Zidane could have paid his mistake much more (not only with shame but with money too)

Materazzi can be rude on the field, but he is a very heartfull boy and Zidane should thank him for that.
