Tinted moisturizer is your best bet if your skin is mostly smooth and even and you just need light coverage. Foundation is better if you need a little more coverage for redness, blemishes, dark circles, etc.

Tinted moisturizer makeup is NOT used to give you a "tan" look...there is some moisturizer containing self-tanner made for the face but that's different stuff. You will look stupid if you use a tinted moisturizer that is too dark for your face! Bronzer is what to use for a "tan glow" look.

Mineral foundation is very OVER-hyped. It does not work for everyone, and the Bare Minerals stuff is the worst...it doesn't blend well and is full of mica which makes it sparkle in the light. That, and it's messy. Mineral powder foundation doesn't work if you have dry skin, because it will clump around any dry spots. It does the same thing with any blemishes which are healing and flaking. You might as well hold a magnifying glass over them. It does absorb oil, which is good for oily skin, but can overdry normal or dry skin. It also emphasizes large pores, which is common with oily skin. There are a lot of people who swear by this stuff, but I don't know why, it doesn't look natural at all!

Lancome used to make an outstanding tinted moisturizer with great coverage. Now I use Elizabeth Arden and I get fab coverage with the tinted moisturizer. I have roseacea and some days I need a little more coverage which I handle with a liquid blemish. Together, even on bad days I have coverage. I am 52 and have drier skin. I gave up on foundations years ago. Evry year I try the usual suspects but I find that almost all foundations are heavier, but most of all, tinted moisturizers have better colours to match my skin. Prescriptives used to have great foundations that were sheer and wet with the blue/red/ red/orange
or red green tints but the line has become much heavier and the colours not as good a blend.

mineral foundation is extreamly light and can actually improve the condition of your skin, where as liquid foundations tend to clog pores and create more skin problems, eventually leading to the use of even more make up to mask the problems.

tinted moisturizer is actually used to get a darker look than foundation. its to give you a glow or slight tan.

if you tend to have dry skin and want a light coverage use tinted moisturizer. but if you have oily skin and want light coverage just use a translucent powder. minerals are said to be good for you-its just the "trendy" new thing in my opinion.

tinted moisturizer is better. It is easier on the skin. Many also have sunscreen in them, which is an added bonus. I wear Dermalogica.
