NEW YORK -- City health officials are investigating the death of a baby boy who was one of three infants to contract herpes after a rabbi circumcised them.
Ten days after Rabbi Yitzhok Fischer performed religious circumcisions on twins last October, one died of herpes and the other tested positive for the virus, according to complaint filed by the health department in Manhattan Supreme Court.
The complaint, reported in Wednesday's edition of the New York Daily News, also said health officials later found a third baby who had contracted herpes after being circumcised by Fischer in late 2003.
Under Jewish law, a mohel - someone who performs circumcisions - draws blood from the circumcision wound. Most mohels do it by hand, but Fischer uses a rare practice where he uses his mouth.
Fischer's lawyer, Mark Kurzmann, told the Daily News that Fischer was cooperating with the investigation, although it's unclear whether Fischer submitted to the city's request for a blood test.

Quite a tricky mess and a sticky business. Malicious intent - a rabbi's self gratification ... all in the name of religious circumcision? Rabbi Fischer is indeed a character. He should be punished. The courts can prosecute the rabbi and forbid the temple in allowing this form of circumcision to continue. Note: passing a viral infection onto another - causing death must be determined by a court of law; [should this be considered murder? intent, self gratification?]. The parents must join together by filing a complaint of "wrongful death" against the temple and the rabbi, as well as not allowing him to continue harming the little ones. Those who are involved in this ritual may not be aware of the virus and they too, need to be educated on the topic. Perhaps a law should be instituted no longer allowing blood drawing in circumcision via the mouth. A baby's system is not strong enough to fight the virus, and will subsequently died. This is not molestation but a crime of wrongful death, wrongful-doing. I agree, take the baby to a medical facility or hospital. Where is the justice?

That is just gross and the parents should know better. Operations like that need to be done in a hospital setting and the rabbi needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law because the child died. The child would probably been ok if it hadn't gotten herpes from the rabbi putting his mouth on the wound.

Why are you asking while you at the instant are not making plans on doing something? considering you're on and stale returned acquaintances, tell somebody or detect a pal she would be in a position to take heed to. it truly is beside the point for a 12/13 12 months previous to be kissing an 18 12 months previous in any situation!

Well, maybe not molestation but incompetent circumcision. Pretty weird using the mouth. Religion gets away with lots of weird rituals.
However, a complaint only alleges misconduct, it may not be the whole truth.

it is gross, but it's protected under his religion. The fact that he is spreading a virus should make it illegal for him to do it.
