An ob is an obstetrician, a medical doctor who specializes in the care of women during pregnancy and childbirth. A gyn is a gynecologist, a medical doctor who specialized is the care of women and the treatment of female diseases, esp. those having to do with the reproductive system.
So an OB/GYN is a doctor who specializes in both fields.
