I was turned down for a position 3 months ago, it was filled, and has now reopened. I love everything about the position, and the company. I know that given my personality, skills, and experience compared to job description and duties that I can offer a wealth of value to the company and the position. I told the HR person this in a cover letter. Do you think they might reconsider me as a candidate?

Either way, there's no harm in reapplying because the worse that can happen is they turn you down again. And yes, they would reconsider you, but the answer to your question really boils down to why they turned you down in the first place.

For example:

If it was because you didn't have the necessary qualifications and experience, then I would say your chances are pretty slim, unless they're extremely desperate for someone, anyone!

If it was because they found someone else with more experience than you, then that's not a huge negative. Maybe this time, they'll go with you, or you might wind up being the most qualified this time around.

If it was because you interviewed poorly, your file will have those notes in there, and it might hurt. But then again, you might be interviewed by someone else who didn't even look back at the file.

My suggestion is to go for it, and I would further suggest giving them a call and letting them know that you had interviewed there before and are extremely interested in the position now that it's been reopened.

This way, you separate yourself out with that personal touch, and remind them that you already know about the job, which puts you 1 step above your competition.

I'd say your chances for being reconsidered are better than the first time you applied. At least now they know you're really interested in the position.

The most important thing to remember is if you're invited to the interview, you should emphasize that this is the second time you've applied and tell them why you're so interested. Hopefully you've been looking for other places to work while you were waiting for this position to come up again.

If you really want to up your chances, make friends with someone who works at that company and have him/her recommend you!

If you don't get in this time, you'll definitely have a better chance the 3rd time...hehe

I am in the same situation and I think they hired the wrong person and now, by goving me a chance, they will be hiring the right person. Your additude seems sincere and entusiastic. I have been in management and had to hire and fire, so I think you stand a good chance just because you show continued interest in this position with this company. Go for it and good luck

if you didn't get the position because it had been filled you stand a chance... if you were in the running & the position was not yours to have for whatever reason they deemed fit.... then its probably not going to do any good.
this also depends on the type of business and postion you are applying for.
most places have rules......

and as for this as the cover letter... once again that is going to depend on the type of business... good luck

If they considered you before, they'll consider you again. And now there's one less good candidate you have to compete against.

Good luck!
