Everyone is different. Some people start off by having a lower than normal body tempature anyway so they could have a fever of say 99 degrees and feel very sick.I wouldn't wait till it gets over 101.Might be too late by then. You could always start wiping him down with a warm damp wash cloth to see if it helps.I just don't know what it is with nurses and hospitals thinking temps have to get to 103 to be taken seriously.

Take him to the hospital if it stays more than 103 degrees F for more than 04 hours. Do try cold sponging and keep him in light clothing, no extra blankets (the whole object is to keep him cool not make him warmer) Give him Advil for the fever 3 times a day, works better than Tylenol.

There is no easy "definite" answer to this question. First...does he have any other medical problems or conditions....how long has he had the fever....is it 100F or over....how high has it gone?...have u given him anything to bring down the temp?....if so did it work?.....how long did it work?....what if any are his other symptoms?....how does he look & act compare to what is normal for him??
Best advice!!.....call the nearest major medical centers ER department... ask to speak with the "triage nurse" if u cannot get a hold of your regular doctor after hours. Tell her/him your concerns & questions along with the answers to the questions I have given you & you should get a good idea of what to do.
My guess is that u r concerned enough to ask on here...r that u .worried...so it's always better to be safe than regret not asking & following through on your gut instinct!

I had a fever a while ago and spoke to a nurse. If at any time his temperature reaches over 103 F, he should go to the hospital.
It does not matter if it stays high or not.

about 101 to 102, anything higher can cause damage. Give him some Tylenol or another fever reducer.
