allow babies to sleep thru the night?

Actually you do need to wake a newborn baby to feed it. Some babies don't wake up on their own just because they're hungry. Keep in mind..umbilical cord...fed automatically. Babies don't know they are supposed to eat through their mouths. That takes a bit of time and they're sleeping.

Usually, through the first month (double check with your abbies doctor) you should make sure that the baby is waking up about every five hours (I'm pretty sure that's right, but check with a pro.)

This was a very good question. I'm surprised so many people got it wrong. If you just let your baby do it's own thing it will wake up freakishly hungry and be so worked up that it can't concentrate to feed. Also, because it can't regulate it's own body, it will be so weak. This is torturous and brings on way more stress than you need right now. However, most babies wake up on their own from the start because their REM cycle is so short.

Good luck with your little one. It seems that you are eager to learn everything you need to know but honestly you're asking the wrong group. Ask your pediatrician or a 24-hour nurse hotline.

I am confused about that question but you cant ALLOW a baby to sleep they kinda do their own thing but you can train a baby to be on a sleep pattern when ever they come home from the hospital.

I personaly feel that you allow the baby to sleep and eat when they want to. Athough newborn babies by the time they are crying have been wanting to eat for awhile. So I always just allowed my babies to put them self to sleep. At about 11 or so when I went to sleep I would go in there and latch them (I was breastfeeding) while they slept. Then at night I would wake up at 3am and do it again. I would do this until they were 3-6 weeks old.

My oldest started sleeping 7hrs at 3 weeks my youngest started sleeping 7hrs at 6.5 weeks.

If babies are formula feed they do stay full longer.

"allow" ?? Heck that is what we work for LOL... allowing them would be meaning to wake them up every night... umm noway! When do they sleep thru the night you mean ?? It depends on the baby... my oldest slept thru the night since 3 weeks old.. however I did not get that lucky with the youngest... she never has..

allow? Um so you mean you have been waking the baby up? Most moms would prefer them sleeping through the night from day 1...lol

i think i understand your question. I think you are trying to ask about feedings and if they should be woken up.

My answer is no. If the baby wants to sleep rather than eat; let the baby sleep. The baby will wake up when she is hungry or needs to be changed.

Babies need at least 14 hours of sleep through the age of 3-4 months.

Babies will sleep through when they are ready! My baby was waking only once a night as a little thing but now as she is getting bigger her nutrional needs change and increase and she is waking up twice during the night. She is 5 months now.

If your baby sleeps through the night on its own then let it. If it is hungry it will wake up and let you know. Enjoy the sleep.

It depends on your baby and how old your baby is. Newborns wake up more often for feedings and with wet diapers. Your question is weird, but makes me wonder...There may be cases in which the child should be woke up, especially if this isn't normal for your baby. If your baby is in good health, I'd let him/her sleep, but I'd check the diaper to make sure it isn't soaked.

You have no choice in the matter :) Just follow your baby's lead. They are usually not ready to go more than 3 hours without eating until they are a few months old, or even a year.
