25 years today is pretty much considered a world record, in this day and age where more than 50% of all marriages end in divorce. The other 50% that don't divorce are far from in love with each other anymore as the majority of those have stayed married for either the children, religious or financial considerations.

In other words, a lot can happen in 25 years.

Hatred sets in because of the expectations you have and haven't talked about. Be open, clearheaded, fair, and reasonable. Ask what you want out of the relationship TRULY and what are the incidentals that would be nice to have, and then the ones that you don't care about. Write it all down and see where this person sits and how you can change your tune? I bet you aren't perfect either, but do your best to be your best to the other person. They will probably be effected positively and perhaps learn to appreciate you more too.

Lack of respect and resentment stemming from that lacking. Men respond to respect like women respond to love. It's how we're wired. Women don't know or understand this about us. You two enjoyed eachother at the beginning because you didn't verbally (or otherwise) disrespect one another. You supported one another's thoughts and decisions. Youvalued the other's opinion. Get that back and you'll be on the road to healing this.

its resentment. its all those things that irritate or slightly irritate you. your spouse has been doing them for 25yrs and hasn't changed. its partly because you hate yourself for putting up with it. sometimes people won't change until you speak up on your death bed........too late.
