I am curious to know the differences of work opertunities, minimum wage, customs, the pace of life, and the mariage ratio. Also I want to know if their crime rate is as high as our own here in the US. And why don't thier policemen carry guns.

Any info at all would be appreciated.

It used to be that the Canadian life style was a kind of laid back one. They had little crime problem. their police were the most respected in the world.
The Canadians have a country larger than ours, and one of the most bountiful in the world, but their is one whose time had not come yet because their country was so full of ice part of the year.
Canada did not have a race problem as it was 90% white british/Frence heritage who had long since gotten used to each other.
But with passing time Canada became more liberalized, Unscrupulous politicians began to develope the country in their image which was to profit themselves. They Invited any one who could come up with 1,000 000 to immigrate to Canada, and filled the place up with Chinese from hong kong which Britian was about to return to China. Many businesses in Canada found themselves out of business as cheap chinese labour was approved to work for the Chinese millionairs.
Than Canada got even more liberal and where it used to be you had to be self sufficent to immigrate to Canada people were brought in who love the welfared system the liberals lured them with so muchj they stayed on it. The Canadain natives who were losing their jobs to these liberals did not love it but voted them in any way to avoid being racist and learned to accept it.
so the other liberals(Those rascal French liberals) began to try to split Canada creating much unrest, so much all the liberals and conservatives made changes that enriched them both this time around. It left the Candanian working class in a mess.
Newer immigration classes now arriving expect a hand out(a lesson they learned from their cousins in the United States) with no obligation to their new Country. Bringing with them, their onw Cultures to be installed in Canada, old sick people needing welfare care, young people demanding welfare, crime. (they even have their cannibals, and serial killers now.) and generally making a huge mess of the whole thing.
Canadains are nice people but now find themseves in a stew they put on the fire themselves.
The Country is one of most exterordinary beauty. Of mountains, lakes, rivers, huge forrest, and ice. As the World's ice melts Canada will either be under water or one of the wealtheist Countries on earth.

I am an American who recently married a Canadian man I met online over a year ago, and I have been living in Canada now for over five months.

Societywise it isn't that different. Close to everything we find in the US we find it here. People drive the same cars, people do business with the same restaurants, grocery stores have the same products available in the US (all except for the very new versions), the same movies that are released in the US are released in Canada at the same time.

With that said, the difference is that Canadians don't elect their government in the same manner Americans. They elect their local leaders and through them the higher parties are appointed from that point on. In the States, we elect from dog catcher to the President. They have a higher system of taxation called the GST and PST (provincial and federal) in sales taxes that total about 15% (give or take a few according to provinces). Even groceries are taxed. While they all have rights to health care, they are not as accessible and you are put on a waiting list, and most Canadians have to visit the US if they don't want to wait for treatment and can afford it. The US doesn't have such a system, but there is more choice.

Crime rate is definitely lower in Canada, mainly because unlike Americans, civilians aren't allowed to own guns, as a matter of fact, if you carry a gun when you cross the border, they're likely to confiscate it.

I wish I could tell you more, but this is all I managed to learn so far about Canadian society.

Oh yeah, Immigration services suck, and their government workers suck even more. As bad as American government workers are, they're far more efficient, and you have a two way communication that isn't there when dealing with the Canadian government. If you are planning to immigrate, get ready for years worth of aggravation without any recourse, because you have no rights as a foreigner.

Also, the average Canadian has anti-American sentiments, but you can thank Bush for that, though.

Ok, here goes-I am a proud Canadian living in the province of Alberta. First and foremost, our police DO CARRY GUNS! Our min wage varies from 7.25 an hr to 7.65 an hr depending on age and if you work part time or full time. We differ in education bcuz we study your history, geography & currency in school. Bigger cities have a fast kind of pace, others r laid back, but we are mostly very friendly. Work opportunies are plenty in the West not so in the East. Marriage ratio is debateable. I hope this helps.

I have spent a lot of time on both sides of the border and for the most part we are very much the same accept you don't end your sentences with "eh" Our customs and marriage ratios are identical, Canadians are more pacifist and less patriotic although that is changing daily, more Canadians are waving the maple leaf every day. Our police carry guns, our border guards don't but that is probably going to change soon.

In the movie. Bowling for Columbine, Micheal Moore showed how Canadian have their doors unlocked at all times with no fear. Also he mentioned how even though Canada has as many guns as the US, Canada does not have nearly as many deaths by guns. Carlos

Is similar to the US but there are some differences. I was there on my Chrismas vacations and I notice that they are very educate, clean and nice people. Criminality is very low there and people are not as afraid as americans are.

Police in Canada carry guns, except in Newfoundland where they keep them in the trunks of their cars unless they feel the need for firearms.
