Safety of caffeine consumption during pregnancy is controversial. Some studies suggest that modest caffeine intake of less than two average cups (defined below) of coffee per day presents a slight risk to the embryo or fetus, but others do not.
There is stronger evidence that larger daily amounts of caffeine during pregnancy may increase the risks of miscarriage, preterm delivery and low birth weight, but no solid proof.
In PubMed, the official website of the National Institute of Health and the National Library of Medicine, a statement about the subject is published by Koren G. of the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
He argued that, "Motherisk's recent meta-analysis suggests that the risks for miscarriage and fetal growth retardation increase only with daily doses of caffeine above 150 mg/d, equivalent to six typical cups of coffee a day. It is possible that some of this presumed risk is due to confounders, such as cigarette smoking."

In conclusion, there is yet to be a clinically established answer to your question. Therefore, moderation is always the best option until a firm answer is sought.

There was a study done a few years ago about coffee drinking during pregnancy. They study proved that coffee in small amounts will not harm the baby. You have to be drinking large amounts for it to do any harm. I mean large like 4 cups of strong coffee every day.
So...if you must drink it then just have one cup a day. The baby will be fine. Coffee is not healthy even when you are not pregnant so if you can then try to limit it or cut it out all together. (I type as I am sipping of my mocha, lol)
But again...in small amounts your baby will be fine.
Make sure you drink plenty of water to combat the effects.

Caffiene free should be okay, but you should also try to steer clear of those fake sugars like aspartame, they are worse for you than just regular sugar. Maybe try to just do your caf. free coke just once or twice a week. You also don't want to overload you/baby with High fructose corn syrup either. Ramen was my weakness, but those are soo bad for you even when not pregnant. I was able to give it up after a while, maybe you will too, just start cutting back. Warning some dr's will tell you an occasional caffienated drink is okay, but those are the same dr's that say a glass of wine while preg occasionally is ok too. Just remember whatever you take in, so does the baby! This is the best time of your life to incorporate a better diet.

I was told by my obgyn and my sister (who is a Nurse manager in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at a very prestigious hospital) that it is OKAY to have 1-2 cups of coffee or caffeinated soda a day. Just don't be drinking a whole pot! I usually have 1 or 2 cups and then switch to decaf.

There are allowable limits of caffiene intake, but you need to understand all of the things that contain caffiene before you allow yourself that cup of coffee. There is tea, soda, chocolate and other drinks that contain caffiene. Once the baby has a heartbeat, the caffiene could affect the baby's heart rate and speed it up which isn't good. If you only had one dose of caffiene a day - you'd probably be okay -but when it comes to a baby - I wouldn't take my chances. However, that one cup - isn't going to make the difference. Make the move to decaf. I don't know what kind of coffee you usually drink, but most decaf varieties aren't that bad when you get used to them and make them sweet and latte. Do your baby a favor and ask for steamed skim milk with a shot of flavor (not chocolate) if it's the coffee shop coffee you crave. Find a new love for a hot drink. My favs are Starbucks steamedskim milk with vanilla and International Foods decaf variety of Chai latte.
Caffiene can also affect your body since it makes your heart work harder than it needs to and it's already maxed out with having a baby inside you. You don't want to do anything to increase your risk of heart trouble or pre-clampsia - anything related to your heart while pregnant would be very serious for you AND baby.

Ask all the people who answered how many actually have children them selves... It is perfectly fine to drink coffee while you are pregnant, as well as other drinks with caffeine. Obviously don't drink like 10 cups a day, that's not good for anyone. However it makes alot more sense to ask your doctor or actually look on pregnancy web sites for the info than asking on here.

I asked my doctor the samething when I was prego! I was told if i could help it - NOT TO DRINK. But he said if I must, a half a cup no more than a cup a day (and that was pushin it). If you can stop drinking it - do it, if you can't work with what you feel comfortable with.

My doc told me I could have up to two cups a day of coffee or up to 4 cups of soda per day. My two year old is very healthy if a little active.

Coffee like verything else is OK in moderation, a LITTLE of what you fancy does you the world of good, especially when you are pregnant.
Have a cuppa and enjoy. Good luck with your pregnancy and hope all turns out well for you and your offspring. ;) H
