If you spend all of your money on labels, then do you have any money left over for others? Like, say, buying presents for your friends, or donating money to charities to help the poor? Many people have the impression that materialistic people are selfish, and they cannot help but wonder why you are impressed with superficial things, like designer labels, instead of the relative quality of the item. It does make you seem less intelligent if you think that an expensive label automatically equals higher quality. Do you realize how much mark-up is on a pair of jeans simply because of a stitch pattern on the pocket, and the label attached? Why donate extra money to a fashion designer (by paying for an unnecessarily high profit margin) instead of, say, Feed the Children? Besides, if you actually “need” to buy expensive things to be happy, then are you incapable of being happy if you can no longer afford to shop for these things? Do you really need stuff to be happy? Most religions teach that if you become more spiritual, then you won’t actually desire material stuff anymore – because that is what it means to be “spiritual” in the first place (as opposed to being “material”). Put it another way: most people would agree that “spiritual” is the word that describes the intangible stuff of the universe. If you want more money, or you like clothes or cars – then you obviously desire tangible, material things. Most religions would teach that if you become more spiritual, then you’ll become indifferent as to whether you have these material things or not -- because you will not desire this tangible stuff anymore. If you are truly spiritual, then it shouldn’t matter if you have a big house or a little house, as long as you have a roof over your head of some sort to stop the rain (and if you are really spiritual, then you don’t even care if you have that). If you are really spiritual, then you should be somewhat indifferent as to whether your material, physical body is sick or well -- you are going to be happy anyway, even if you have terminal cancer (your body is just a material thing anyway). I realize that this is an ideal, and that it may not be completely possible, but it is the goal of being “spiritual”, as opposed to being than “material”. I realize that most people, including most men, are not really spiritual, so the latter part really isn't a concern for most men that you meet, but it is something to think about, also, since some of us are. If you really like shopping, then try this gift catalog: ==edit== Donating to charity is more efficient than having an individual like yourself donate to other individuals, simply because of economy of scale. A homeless shelter can buy more food for more people with the same amount of money because they buy in bulk, for example. I think that you don't like charities because you are selfish, and you are making excuses.
