Some graphics programs offer trial versions of their software, so you'd have a limited time to work with it for free.

Your best bet, however, is to spend a little money on a freelance artist to help you with this. There are many considerations when creating a logo that an experienced artist will automatically take into consideration, such as choosing color(s) that will be easily and well-reproduced in the printing process. Also, creating it in a file format that will a) be easily usable by a printer, and b) allow it to be resized larger or smaller without loss of quality. Having those details addressed will save you lots of hassle in the future.

www.corel.com offers trial versions of their software.

Microsoft Paint is good enough for most logos. I doubt whether you know how to use it. Anyway it's a simple software. Click Start, go Programs, go Accessories, and you will find Paint! Go through Help.
Good Luck!
