Broadband over cable or DSL line? Get a home router from those retailers, follow instruction there.
Share dial-up is more complicated, you need a network card so is he; wireless be easier b/c I am tired to explain straight and cross-over cable. After setup a home network, repost the question for dial-up.

Well it all depends what connection you have - Wired or Wireless?
Wired - Get a 4 port Hub, connect both the computers and ADSL router to it.
Wireless - should be pretty easy, set maximum connection allowed upto 5 in router

The basic idea behind your question is to share the connection amongst two different computers. The technique is so simple as it seems difficult.
1. Start to make a P2P connection (by workgroup).
2. Now create a dial up connection and go to its properties and just share the connection. hopefully, it will be working fine, if your P2P connection is successfully established.

You need a router and each computer needs a network card. Configure the router (and if wired, connect the computers).
