It would also hurt the Law Enforcement and Judicial branches of the government..
Don't kid yourself there is a lot of money in keeping it illegal..

Lisaclara made the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard of. Marijuana does NONE of the things she mentions, and alcohol does ALL of them. If alcohol was illegal and marijuana was legal, there would be MUCH less accidents, people doing stupid things, death, etc. Marijuana does not even come close to affecting judgement the way alcohol does. You hear about accidents involving alcohol everyday, but rarely hear about accidents involving marijuana, because marijuana does not affect you that way. People die from drinking too much alcohol everyday, yet it is impossible to die from smoking too much weed. You have been brainwashed by the government like many others. I suggest you watch "Grass" and learn about all the lies the government has told you about marijuana. This is not a joke. You can find the movie on Amazon or ebay.

Oh, yes, it would affect organized crime but it would hurt the police considerably more.. They are making a killing on drugs.. they come across one million dollars in cash and severl pounds of drugs.. they will keep $500,000 for themselves and some drugs and turn in the rest as having been found. They DO NOT WANT drugs to be legalized

I don't think it would. I'm sure organized crime has more illegal options than marijuana. Of course, if it were legalized they would get in on the action.

If marijuana were legal it would hurt organized crime right in the pocket book big time. This would be to the tune of millions and millions of dollars which would move from illicit to legitimate business. There would be savings in the prison system, the justice system and policeing system.

Marijuana probably isn't one of the illicit drugs that organized crime distributes or invests in a lot, so I would say it wouldn;t help or hurt them. Some of the more profitable drugs like cocaine,X, or heroin might hurt.

The gangs will find some other contraband for making their payments! Crimes thrive not because of this or that contraband item, but because Society does not care enough for the problems of the poor ; and the ruffians find ready recruits among the enteprising youth among the poor and those sections of the society who have suffered under the regime of the day. cs r

No, they would just sell harder drugs to "promote" users to doing. If marijuana were legal - we'd have an increase in drug related car accidents, innocent people getting killed, teenagers doing stupid things, more people feeling like it's okay to fry their brain, etc...Lower scores on standardized tests and fewer people even making it to college. It would hurt in many other ways - but not organized crime.

No.
But it would sure tick off the drug manufaturers.
What do you think aspirin companies and naussea medicine companies would do if marijuana got on the market?
Those already in the business just start doing it legal.
Those not in the business are screwed.

Not nearly as much as legalizing cocaine, meth, heroin, et al.
And prostitution. Legalize that and the drugs, truly regulate it's production and use, tax it, and POOF! there goes the budget deficit, as well as drying up the Mob's revenue -- which is why none of this is legal in the first place. The Mob doesn't want it legal.

I think that it wouldn't hurt organized crime very much, because most of their money doesn't come from such "small potatoes". I think the govt. would get their hands into the mix, though, and it would probably be taxed up the yin yang!
