There has always been misery, hunger, greed and pain. We just know about it more because of the news and technology gives us the information like never before.
It will always be that way, because it is still the survival of the fitness (rich people). Those who have money and power will continue to have it and those who don't, will most likely not ever get close. Man is a greedy creature by nature. The more you have whether it is money or power, the more you want. And because they have it, they make everyone around that doesn't miserable and poor.
Your question, "when is enough, enough?" is a good one. I think it starts with each one of us. We need to make money less important and humanity more important. Like Bono of the band, U2, he has dedicated his free time to combating hunger in the world. The Gates are also contributing mass amounts of money to educate the world. It is a start and it gives others the cue to do the same. I hope that it will someday happen, that the world can learn to just live together, supporting one another. It is the only way we will survive as children of the universe.

There has always been more that enough misery to go around through out history. The new century probably has less misery that previously. It is just that you are informed about terrible things as they happen and in detail by such organizations like CNN. It is like the drop in criminal activity where you never realize this is happening because the stories about what did happen just get longer when there is less to report.

On the other hand what you say is still correct there is still much to do. The question is what will you give up to help others or what work will you provide to help. There are many good charities needing money and people to help. Pick one and do what you can. If we all pitch in a little things can and will improve.

yeah what happened to the good old time of yesteryear there was no bloodshed, no war, no hate, no money, no greed, no misery

all those things were invented by the american goverment sometime in the last 8 years...right?

the world has never known pain or hunger or greed...

dude get a life.

reality sucks, it always has, always will, just hope you are on the wining side.

do some history reading and you can better understand the so called misery and greed in the world today. here are a few names for you to compare today with

nero (crazy roman...i mean crazy)
genhas khan (warlord, barbarian, king)
napolean (imperialist for france, great warrior)
hitler (some interesting ideas on other religions)
pope urban (helped start the crusades)

but again, lets feel sad for today and how bad things are

There has always been misery in this world - no matter when in history you look at. And, there will always be misery. When are poor people going to stop having so many children? Why are the poorest people in the world those that have the highest AIDS and HIV rates? You are just lucky to live where you are. i would assume that you are not rich - but I bet you live a nice life. Have you given up half of your wealth to help a poor family in Central America or Africa? I doubt it.

There is misery because humans have the gift of "free will". They make decisions and choices .. and they chose to be miserable or not. It's all in how you look at things - is your glass half full or half empty? Also, I think that greed and jealousy causes misery. If people would mind their own business and be thankful for what they have, they would be much happier.

There is less misery now than there used to be. Up until recently 99% of Humanity has lived in abject misery. Recently, I'd say only 50% lives in abject misery.

That notion will never make sense if you don't look around you and evaluate the misery there.
Misery is caused by not considering the consequences of our actions properly.
Every unwanted child, every prison sentence, every failed exam,
every illness, every dismissal is the result of someone not weighing the consequences of his or her actions.
It sounds brutal and callous but this is the only conclusion I can make.

Because we have strayed off of our path. We are working against nature instead of with it and as a result we are destroying it. But do not despair. There is still hope for humanity. On the money thing, turn off your television. The sooner you do that the sooner you will be ridding yourself of the malcontent that advertisers want you to feel "buy my product and you will be whole, use my lipstick and you will be sexy, drive my car and you'll have a great family". It's all crap.

It has always been that way and will probably be that way forever. All we can do is try to make life more valuable and comfortable for those around us and share with others. If everyone did their part, it could remedy some of what you said.
