Go to View/Toolbarrs/Customize and select the back arrow

I hope your are using internet explorer 6 & above. Then in that case select the view pull down menu and select toolbars and select the standard buttons I think normally this would do. But in case the setting have changed and you still not getting the back button then select custimise under toolbars . Here you get a window showing available toolbars buttons and current toolbar buttons, now, select the, back toolbar button into the current list and save, that is all to it.

Try right-clicking on the grey area up there & selecting "Standard Buttons"

right click the top of the browser and check standard buttons? O.o
