I think that the correct question is, Who made Mary a virgin Mother?
I do not feel like pulling up research, but in a theology class I took over 30 years ago it seems I read about a Roman Caesar who decided he could use the new Christian religion to unify his empire if it was just a bit more paltible to some of his Egyption, African, and Mesopotanian subjects. So he picked and chose which "scriptures" he would allow and wrote up most of the accounts of Jesus's linage, including his Virgin Mother who conceived from the One God and had an easy birth.
I am not sure any "scriptures" or references to Mary being a virgin ever occurred until hundred years after the last of the apostles had died. It was important that Mary have a high place in the religion as many of the subjects of Rome at the time worshipped women gods as well as men ones. The religion needed some diversity to be sold to the general population.
The Christian religion we all so cling to has so many similar premises to most primitive religions and pre-christian religions, it could not have been coincidence.
So I truly doubt Mary was a virgin or ever professed to be one. What does it matter? From the first testament through the New One we are told we are all brothers and sisters made in the image of God. So that would make us all sons and daughters of God wouldn't it? And Christ's messages did change the World far more than our invasion of Iraq, now didn't it?
So the story got propagandasized. What's the big deal?
Just in case you are referring to passages about Jesus's brothers, I am not sure when or exactly who, but I think it was an early Pope who decided Mary was never de-flowered. Early writings that contradicted this view were "lost". Actually, none of the apostles ever said Mary never had any other children, in fact it was implied otherwise.

Read about what's called "immaculate conception". As no intercourse or any kind of sexual act was done I presume that Virgiv Mary is still virgin.

She never had sexual relations with a man. She was impregnated by God. The Catholic chiurch believes she never had relations even after the birth of Jesus, which is not 100% substantiated.
