It isn't the only way to have a good time in general, though.

Think about it this way - if you went to a crack house and you were the only one who wasn't high as a kite, you'd be the odd one out, right?
But is that really a bad thing? Just 'cause everyone else is doing it doesn't make it a good idea.

I personally don't hang with crowds who rely on alcohol for their recreation. It's quite possible to have a good time with your friends without going to clubs and drinking (going to clubs without drinking works, too).

I consider it a personality weakness when a person needs alcohol to "open up". If you're not happy with yourself, you ought to work on changing. Altered states of mind don't make you a better socialite; they only serve to make you as socially incompetant as your drinking cohorts. After all, when everyone is acting "open" (or, as i like to think of it, "stupid") it doesn't seem like such a bad thing.

Booze is an excuse to pretend your morals are temporarily lowered thus allowing you to have guiltless sex. At least for the ladies. For the guys it's a way for the ladies to have an excuse to have sex. Dudes need no reason, just a place.

There are many alternates to a club. Most are pretty boring. The no sex part is a major reason for that. Booze does tend to free up many people's anxieties and since most people are happy drunks the mood in a bar tends to be exponentially more party let loose. People go there expecting that, then drink which reinforces that attitude.

I had to quit drinking due to health reasons. So when I go to a bar or a gig I nurse a beer through the whole night or just get a Coke. Folks think I'm drinking a mixed drink. Some bars will serve non-alchoholic beer in a glass so that it looks like your drinking tap beer.

BBQs often mix drinking non-drinkers together in a festive attitude. Ren Faires are another place to get the same level of festivitie without feeling strange for not drinking. I do agree almost every event I've attended that banned booze was amazingly boring. Not because I wasn't drunk. Like I said I quit getting drunk years ago. It's the attitude of the whole thing.

Because you don't really have a life. You're boring
and in order to be exciting, you need a false trigger.

Get a life, be a real person, put purpose back into your life
and you will find that you can enjoy yoursef without the
need for false enthusiasm.

If you ignore this advice and continue to use alcohol
or other drugs to make it seem like you are having fun,
you will wake up one day and think, ya know, my life has
been without merit, I really need to do something real to
make up for all the time I've wasted.

Enjoy life without intoxication, and you will be enjoying life for
what it really and truly is. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourself.

Alternatively, if you think you can survive battling a drinking
problem, drink away. Once you get through (over) it, you'll
have a much better appreciation for the sane words of the
people on this list of answers to your question.

I have never consumed alcohol or smoked for that matter. I found that an evening in the company of "drinkers" who mostly seem to smoke gives me a headache. It may be that the girls at the office were right and Gwen and I were just "squares". Anyone old enough to recognize the term ?
Best wishes, Rose P.

Who said so? You can go to a club - any club - and drink fresh orange. Yes, you may feel like the odd one. But that's only for sometime. After that your friends will respect you for your strong character.

I dont necessarily agree. It is a social thing to do, people like to conform, plus as you said it loosens people up, so they let their guard down and have fun. I could have a glass of water and be fine, but Vodka and pineapple will get me to smile and laugh quicker.

honestly i think we've all been brainwashed into thinking that. i know it always sucks to be dd i think that its because most people feel free to say or do what ever when they drink and its OK. its kinda like a freedom most people feel like they don't have in everyday life like if you walked up to a woman drunk and said wow your hot..and you were drunk shed be like whatever hes drunk but sober you don't have an excuse you've got nothing to hide behind you know what i mean i hope so i get it but I'm drunk....I'm kidding I'm not,lol

think about what happen when people drink. they let go of there fear and be themself and are proud of there body even if they are ugly . look if everyone could be free to be themself and unafraid to do anything there would be no clubs or bars ,but because we all fear something, mostly what people think of us so we have get that drunk guest be brave enuogh to get up and dance. you don't have to get drunk to be yourself or dance you just to not care what everone elsa is think of you. if need to drink to free your then care to much about what everyone elsa is thinking

I asked someone once if they'd had a good night out, they said "yes". I then asked "where did you go", their reply was "I don't know, I can't remember". you figure it out?
