Would you watch a movie in which Superman is played by Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) and the Catwoman is played by Whoopi Goldberg? Wait a minute, I have just realized that I would definitely watch that movie!
Now, to answer your question: it is about the world being saved by the ones with the best genes. Of course, nobody cares about the brains...

Because that is the American Ideal for physical perfection and the traditional way American comics are drawn, women with big boobs and small waists and long legs (dress like whores to show off their physical assets), while men looks like muscular body builders pumped full of steroids (who has to wear body suits as there is no need to see skin here, the comic book artist is NOT gay). Manga has a lot more varieties, and the main guy character is often NOT attractive, and a lot of them do look gay. UK comics (Neil Gaiman and Alan Moore's stuff) are also not filled with muscle men.

Those comics are probably written by men who do not date much. They are idealizing their perfect woman as falling huge boobs and wearing skimpy clothes because they can't get the real thing. The men with the huge muscles are their way of trying to compensate for their own physical shortcomings, much like the way men who buy expensive muscle cars are trying to compensate for another for of physical shortcoming

You forgot to add that the women have calypgean hips, generous buttocks and the men are call clean shaven and have perfect teeth. Face it, the plots and stories are sometimes (often?) pretty lame. There has to be Something attractive about the art so people will buy them! Otherwise you would see Hostess Twinkie ads in Playboy and Penthouse!

Comic Book Superheroes are modern versions of classical mythology.
They are modern ideals of physical perfection and power to our society. In ancient times they portrayed the gods and goddesses as perfect muscled/endowed nude forms , so our superheroes are portrayed in a similar yet clothed manner

Those characters are drawn to depict ideals. It's the same as asking why is Barbie so darn anatomically impossible. :))
And the clothing is simply fanservice.

It's a matter of commerce. Sex sells. If you can sell more comic books with idealized women in skimpy outfits wouldn't you?

Maybe because they are imaginary?
Also, they aren't JUST imaginary, they are usually the representatives of male and female fantasies.
