Great question. In America, we definitely shun older people's opinions. There are or have been other cultures that notably recognized wisom of the elders (e.g. native americans), but I suspect that nowadays, most of the world is like the U.S., or getting that way.

old people are not what they used to be

old people use to be 40 year old people, middle aged and full of life and wisdom

now old people live to be 70-over 100, and become forgetfull

yet the ones who dont become forgetful, yes have a lot of knowledge, but it is mostly history and cant be applied today because of society changes

It depends at what mental state they are in and their health condition. But I think older people have alot to bring to the table and we can learn from them.

If the older people have Alzheimers maybe they will be less respected than a healthy older person who can remember things and teach us the tricks of the trade.

I think maybe we just don't take the time to listen. We are so busy going on with our own lives. There are still people alive for instance that can remember when women couldn't vote or when the first automobiles were seen.It really is amazing! We just need to take the time. After all, we to will be old one day.♥

Absolutely not. MOST older people do not understand that the world have changed dramatically in the last 60 years.

Society also overestimates their driving abilities.

Considering they can't remember what day it is, I don't know how much wisdom they really have.
