LOL! As someone who attends Highland Games and who also used to attend Renaissance Faires all the time, I've playfully asked this question (and heard it asked of braw highlanders) many times! ;) I also learned the fine art of "kilt-checking" -- but NO, it does not involve groping anything! As I said, it's a fine art, not a crude one.
Anyhoo, I've found that the majority of men wearing kilts are actually of Scottish ancestry, and, in turn, the majority of them seem to prefer going "regimental". As you know by now, that means wearning nothing underneath! *grin* BTW, below is a link to the lyrics of a HILARIOUS song called "The Scotsman". It tells the ballad of two young, curious lassies on a quest to answer your exact question! I've heard the song a million times and it still makes me laugh! ;D
