I'll refer you to a good little piece of advice my mom used to tell me...............If everyone you know jumped off the empire state building......would you follow them?
The message here is that......even if sooo many ppl do s/t......doesn't make it right, and it doesn't mean that it makes sense to do it!!

Switching from Republican to Democrat is like getting out of the pot to get into the fire. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense. There is a lot of disagreement about the war in Iraq. I don't believe we understood the cultural differences between us and them. Our intentions were good - but the facts of life were different. What answers have the Democrats provided (not counting Howard Dean)? To criticize and be Monday morning quarterbacks do not provide us with solutions. People hate George Bush no matter what he does. Our system allows for change. I can't tell what they would do, but I wouldn't mind seeing a Democrat in the White House in 2008 - just to give them a chance to show how smart and wonderful they are. The price of gas won't go down. We will still have crime, terrorism and problems in our schools. Maybe it is time for a change - but for the time being, I'll let you do the changing of the guard.

That's because right now, Bush's administration is messing up REALLY badly. Probably, in forty years time, a democratic administration will mess up, and people will be switching again, or perhaps we'll have another switch, where the Republicans become the Democrats, and vice-versa, like in the beginning of the 20th century. Anyway, the point is, go with the party whose VALUES you believe in (although based on your argument, the execution isn't wonderful at the moment), and who you can trust; don't just switch around for no good reason.
P.S. I'm a moderate conservative, but registered independant, so perhaps my opinon wasn't quite asked for, but it was given, so I hope that it was helpful!

Well, I haven't seen too many Republicans switching sides but I do believe the Republican party has gone too far to the right and the next two elections will start pulling the country back to the left.
The problem for me is that I detest the Hillary/Kerry/Pelosi/Dean's of the left. When I saw Lieberman lose in CT I could see the lefty dems start to do the only thing that could prevent them from taking the house in the next elections...they went too far left.
I saw another question asking why the US doesn't have a third party. I truly wish it did have a moderate party. I would love to see the right-wing democrats and the left-wing republicans jump ship and create one.
I'm not holding my breath.

Any Republicans I know who have changed have gone Libertarian because they believe in smaller government than what is currently delivered. I do not know any Republicans that have turned democrat, they would have to be crazy. If they don't like Bush, they can just choose to go with a different section of the party, and there are some variations.
And yes, Lieberman is changing from democrat because the liberals in the democratic party are such wusses they don't believe in defending our country.

Don't hear from who? You think the press would cover democrats turning republicans?
I am not overly political but it doesn't matter what anyone preaches, getting anything done is like pulling teeth. That's the unfortunate side effect of "checks and balances" the balance never tips until both parties want it bad enough, not when it is sound to do so.
Also, just because someone votes a certain way doesn't mean they are affiliated with that party. I've heard of political candidates so askew that leaders urge their own party to vote the other way.

Question for ex-Republicans.
I used to be a Republican, too. And yes, the party has certainly gotten off of their former greatness as a party of fiscal discipline. But I am not disgruntled mainly about that. And I am not going to jump ship to the donkeycrat party either. I am just plain not going to vote. Stay away from the voting booth -- that's my motto. I am disgruntled because of the Supreme Dictator's decision in Bush v. Gore. I am disgruntled with Bush because he asked for that ruling.
Okay, I couldn't think of a question.

I am a Democrat that usually votes Republican. In reality I have no party to align with.
I have no confidence in the Dem's, nor do I agree with anything in their platform. I side with Republican ideology, but just wish that those in power would actually live by the message they preach.
This current administration has mishandled several key elements of policy while in power. I am not giving them any slack, but what was the alternative, that half a whack job who "invented the Internet"?

I'm about to switch my registration from the GOP to the Dems because I figure I'll have a better chance being heard as a pro-life, pro-gun Democrat than as a pro-environment, pro-free-speech Republican. You might also check out the first link below for what I hope is a site that will annoy hardcore partisans and hopefully get people to think. :-)

There are hardly any Republicans turning into Democrats because of the Bush administration... it's more like they are voting in a more liberal basis on some issues. They are still Republican... but more liberal in their approach on some issues I guess.
There are numerous reasons for that.

Actually I have seen a big swing the other way. Ex Democrats jumping ship...I have always voted Democrat...but will be voting Republican...As my entire family will be. I don't need to question why I am changing as I know the answer.
Democrats are leading this country into socialism. I am taxed to pay for every social program under the sun that the Democrats can think of. My money is used to sponsor Gay/Lesbian education in schools, to support education for criminals, to pay for food and health care for people that don't want to work...the list goes on....NO THANKS DEMOCRATS....!!
