Well, there is no pat answer. Sometimes gay men are "effeminate" and display certain feminine behavior and sometimes don't. Sometimes lesbians look very butch and sometimes they don't. So, in other words there are some people whom you would think of as obviously gay by their mannerisms or how they dress, but even then you could be wrong.

i think that gays are just like everybody else. i mean they look like the rest of us. sure most gays dress good, and some cross dress, some gays walk in a certain way or talk or stand differently but in the end the way they do stuff isnt really the best bases. after all, we all do things differently. just because someone sounds gay doesnt mean his gay. deep down, gays are people too. they drink, eat, sleep, go to school, or work, they have good days, they have bad. there really is no telling. i think the only difference is their sexual orientation/preference.

Yes. Sometimes. I have a gay friend and, OMG, he is so OBVIOUSLY gay. However, his partner is NOT obviously gay. One would never imagine in a million years that his partner was gay. Not by his walk, not by his dress, not by the way he stands or where he shops or what he listens to or ANYTHING.
Everyone is different. Why in the world are you WORRIED about how to tell if someone is gay? Move On Already!!

Often, you cannot tell who is gay and who is not. Do not assume that a guy who "acts gay" or "talks gay" or "walks gay" is actually gay. There are many effeminate straight men and there are also many very masculine gay men. There are gay cops, construction workers and athletes. Do not stereotype people. If someone happens to be gay, so what? Why spend time trying to figure out who is gay and who is not, unless of course you are gay and you are looking for a sexual partner. If that is the case, you will just have to rely on your natural "gaydar" to tell you who is like you!

Most times it is hard to tell if a person is gay of not, especially in the older gay society. I have been to one funeral where my best female friend had to bury her son because of aids. He was a very nice looking gentleman, and had a special program at the Funeral Home. There was this gay group with their ribbons attached, and I did not know this young man was gay until I seen the group that was at the funeral. I have recently found out that his sister has not forgiven her brother, and could not understand why he turned out like he did. According to my friend her son was deeply hurt because his younger sister could not accept the fact that he was different. I think the mother and daughter have came to grips with his death, and his lifestyle..

my friend suddenly became that way over night.....his voice was really hi pitched and girly sounding and started taking care of himself like a woman would, makeup and perming his hair...plucking his eyebrows. his new voice and mannerisms really set off the red light. He even started dressing alot nicer. Don't think you can tell by the way the stand though...some gay people do walk a bit differently than straight guys.

You may see one with a machoastic look but do not get beguiled by his look.... inwardly he is a gay is some cases. One cannot judge someone from the way he dresses and stands. He may be so rude and very commdanding in public, he may look very intimidating ..... but get to know him when he is alone with you.... he will talk in a sheepish manner and girlish manner...

Sometimes all of the above and a lot of times you just have to ask. I know some gay men that you would think are straight by looking at them and talking to them and women too.

Usually by their mannerisms. Males will display more feminine ways of walking, speaking, gesturing etc. Females will emulate the male characteristics, and have heavier features than regular
females. Each will try and avoid in depth relationships witih the
opposite sex. Females will dress more 'butchy' and males will dress with flair and care.

Being gay does not always manifest itself through mannerisms & other exterior signals. These things are generally evident in someone who has a more effeminate nature. other people can be gay & no one is aware of it unless the individual does or says something that reveals that they want you to know.
