is that elton john song about skinheads?? i heard it the other day and listened to the lyrics for the first time ever. talks about the working class and says something about his sister being so cute in her braces and boots...hmmm, just wondering.

The early skinheads were all over England by 1969. They weren't racists, just working class kids who liked to drink, dance to ska and reggae, fight, and hook up with girls. So yeah, that's what the song's about. I'm even friends with a (nonracist) oi! (skinhead punk rock) band that used to cover it.

Well, back in the mid '70s when that came out I'm not sure England had a large population of skinheads yet. But even if was just about normal working class tough guys, it's the same sentiment.

No night is good for fighting. Life is too short for hate. I thought the song was just about goin out partyin on a Saturday and sometimes when people get drunk they do stupid things. I guess I never really listened to it.

This is one of my favorite songs of all time but not for he words per se... my interpretation is its just agood night of hte week to party hard.
