RE:
share a funny or embarrassing breast feeding story?
I have been breastfeeding for about a month now and I had no idea when I started that milk would spray from my breasts or it would leak and make big spots on my cloths usually in the most embarisaing times.
I figure that there are many funny stories all you moms have about it so please share.

I got Mastitious when I was pregnant, so when I was breastfeeding I always made sure I did not have any blocked milk ducts. Well one of the times I was checking, I guess my breast was not empty after a feeding. Anyway I ended up squirting my son in the face.
You need to use nursing pads, Medela makes the best didposable ones.

Here are two; one from when my son was newborn and one recently. A few days after my son was born, our priest came over to visit (I work at the church, so he is also my boss). I was sitting on the couch nursing when my husband let him in. My daughter, who was 3 1/2 walk over and said, "Do you wanna see my baby?" and whipped the blanket off of me!! I work at a day care and am still breastfeeding my 10 month old. During my class' nap, the infant room teacher walked my son down to my room so I could feed him. I was in the middle of something, so my assistant took him and gave him a Nilla Wafer to nibble on. I got done with what I was doing and went over and picked him up. I sat down with him and he latched right on, but he kept pulling off. I couldn't figure out why, so I peeked under the blanket and there he was trying to eat the cookie and nurse at the same time!! Why not?! Everyone likes cookies and milk!!!

What's really awful is when you are out in public after they are old enough to want to see what's going on. I thought it was awkward at first figuring out how to get the blanket up on the shoulder and just coordinate, but when my son was between 6 and 9 months , he started pulling the blanket off to try to see the world. So i would have to try to hold onto it for dear life, and i would get some amused looks from people passing by. Eventually i just gave up the blanket for carrying an oversize shirt with me that i could put on during the feeding and pull up just high enough for the baby to get in there, but still cover everything else.

When I had my son, I became a major breastfeeding advocate (am considering becoming a lactation consultant) so I'd nurse my son anywhere, practically DARING anyone to come up to me and tell me I had to stop. I usually made sure I was covered, so modesty wasn't the issue. But the fact that my pacifier hating son wanted to nurse every half hour for the first 2 months sure made for some interesting situations!
1) We went to a chinese buffet, and just after I got my food, he decided he needed to eat, too. So, I donned my nursing cover, which he hated put him under and started to nurse him. He complained about the cape so I took it off and covered the interesting part of me with his blanket. So his head was showing some. I figured I might as well eat while he was, so I dug in. A few minutes later, my mom sitting across from me started laughing at me and pointing, I figured I was 'showing' so I looked down. Only to find out I'd spilled rice all over my eagerly nursing son. I cracked up and started heaving up and down I was laughing so hard, but he just kept right on eating, determined little booger he was. My mom still teases me that I'm a bad mom, spilling food on my kid!
2) We were shopping at walmart (as I do 2-3 times a week now!) when again, he decided he had to nurse. For a few minutes I sat on a bench, but my mom was still walking around, and I didn't want to to have to search for her in the acreage the Walmart Supercenter, so I felt the only thing to do was to get up and walk around while and nurse him. No sling or anything, and my rather large son already weighed a good weight, so I made for a pretty funny sight. I had on a nursing shawl that modestly disguised my front. But not until we got back out to the car, did I realize it did nothing for my backside! My shirt was completely lifted up to accommodate him eating in the front, and my crack was almost showing in the back of the maternity shorts that I was still wearing. Oops! Guess I was the entertainment for the evening.

My son was just about month old and had slept an unusually long time. I had gotten up and was getting ready to wake him for a feeding when some company dropped by. As I was getting the coffe ready, my son whimpered in his sleep. I had immediate let down and when my company stepped into the kitchen to check the coffee, I was standing in a puddle with the front of my shirt drenched!!

I had left my first child with my mom overnight and proceeded to go out. I got back later then expected the next day. I had no pump so my breasts were totally engorged. I popped one of them out to start feeding my daughter and end some of my discomfort. My milk shot across the room and hit my brother in law in the forehead. He didn't think it was to funny at the time. But now we laugh about it. He still tells people to watch out for my guns.
