First of all, be prepared for a very expensive cost of living. Most areas located near the better job opportunities have very high housing costs either rent or purchase. The best thing I can recommend is that you look on line for the San Francisco Chronicle web page and browse jobs as well as housing rentals and sales. I live on the outskirts of Alameda County which is still considered the bay area. Even though the ocean is about an hours drive, rents for say a 1 bdrm apt. go from $1000.00 on up and median home prices are from $450.000 on up. As for the women, well that is up to each individual. You have a range here as you expect anywhere else.

I don't think I need to tell you that cost of living is high in the Bay Area. I would think rent alone is going to be more than $1,000 for studio in more decent neighborhood. If you don't need to drive too far for work, or if you work in SF, you can get a Fast Pass and transportation won't be too expensive. I would say rent is going to be the largest expensive.

I don't think it's hard to find work here, but it gets harder finding work that pays well enough to rent a place or buy (which is much more expensive). Other than housing and gasoline, the prices are pretty much the same as in other parts of the country. Car insurance is probably higher also. But housing is very expensive here as you probably already know.
Women... honestly I found local women to be too manly for the most part, except for latin american/asian/african immigrants or their children. Theoretically I guess there should be more available to choose from here because of the gay male population, but it never really seemed that way to me. After years of trying to date here I ended up meeting a Brazilian woman (in Brazil) online and marrying her.

It's really hard to find work here, unless you want to work in the retail or food service industries. Try bajobs.com or craigslist.org
I agree with the other answers, the rent leans on the higher side and gas is about $3.20 right now.

It is expensive out there...trust me. Many of the women here seem to be "into themselves" too much. I guess the jobs here are so-so. Maybe try somewhere like El Cerrito.
