In most cases muscle knots are caused but a lack of calcium and maybe magnesium. Also it is a sign that your body is not getting enough water or fluids. If you just listen to your body in most cases it is telling your something that is lacking in nutrients.
To answer your question about either exercising or massages, They are both used to reduce the toxins and knotting one has.
I would do both exercise and get massage therapy. Also be sure your calcium intake is proper and drink at least a gal of water a day. Not soda... Water.

Muscles don't get tied into knots, just feels like it. Where are the "knots"? Are they the end of muscles (tendons) or are they bumps, so to speak, in the belly of muscles, That makes a difference. Tendons become stressed and ropey, thick, in the bellies, could be the toxins you mentions, lactic acid and metabolic wastes. Could be scar tissue that needs breaking up. Wish I knew where you're talking about.
Drink lots of good water, rub/massage the area to break it up, destress and loosen it. Take an ice cube and rub with minimal pressure over area to reduce pain and make old damaged blood cells rush away from area then in turn, the heart will beat harder, faster to send new oxygenated, nutrient enriched blood to the area to repair and deal with problem. The body is programmed to care for itself, but often needs our help. Ice can do that. Don't use heat if inflammation is present, or swelling as this will only worsen the condition. Ice hasn't any adverse affects as long as you use ice. Freezer packs get colder than 32 degrees F and can burn the skin. If thats all you have, just put a thin cloth between you and it so as to avoid burning. Exercise is always beneficial, just don't overdo when you have pain. Pain is an indicator that theres a problem, so take care of your body, it has to last you a lifetime. Massage will definately be the best bet. A trained therapist can effectively help the condition even in as little as a 1/2 hr session

My mom was a massage therapist. She says muscle knots are caused by tension and things like that. I'm not sure if exercising will help, though it might. If it were me, I'd definitely go for the massage. They feel so good after you're done, a hell of a lot better than exercise, anyway. My mom also says that muscle knots clog up the blood.. something. I can't remember.. so it might be good to do something soon.

Those so called toxins are the residual effect of metabolism.. they are removed by increasing the blood flow.. most easily by continueiing the same type of exercise..This is a common occuirance when training for football. Or for any strenuous sport. They are usually removed within 15 minutes after beginning the exercise the following day. Removal of those particle requires the muscles to work as there is no pressure for venous blood. Is pushed by muscle action.

disagree. By heart, you are speaking of the physical thing or the mind? Lifting one's spirit? you mean lying about the nature of life; which is harm, by the way. I doubt if you'll be strengthening anything but a harder crash. Since, the only thing anything is capable of doing is trusting, why would their spirits need lifting?
