Another word problem...Problem solving?

Question

Sally and Karl work at different jobs. sally earns $6 per hour and Karl $3 per hour. They each earn the same amount per week but Karl works 4 more hours. How many hours a week does Karl work?

let us say that karl works K hours and Sally works S hours
so the some earned by sally = 6S and it's 3K for Karl
and if we say they earn equall sum then...
6S = 3K........devide by 3
2S =K.............(A)
we also have Karl works additional 4 hours per week
K = S + 4
if we put K = 2S from equation (A)
2S = S + 4
S = 4 hours
K = 2S = 2*4 = 8 hours

we can make sure
karl gets $3 * 8 = $24/week
Sally gets $6 *4 = $24/week

so cool..huh??

Let Sally work x hours per week
therefore karl works x+4 hours per week
the equation is
6x=3(x+4)
6x-3x=12
3x=12
x=4
Karl works x+4 hours a week
so, Karl works 8(4+4) hours a week.

The problem sets up like this:

S = Sally's hours per week and K is Karl's hours per week

6S = 3K for equal amount made
S + 4 = K for Karl's extra 4 hours

So now you have 2 equations to solve. Since you only have trouble with word problems and not solving equations, I will leave the rest to you.

for time = k

then
karl's earning = 3(k+4)
for time = k+4

now

6k = 3(k + 4)
6k = 3k + 12
6k - 3k = 12
3k =12
k = 4

therfore hours worked by each in a week are
sally's = 4 hours
karl's = 8 hours
