How about an American in the UK...say Ireland? What has your experience been?

I have lived in a foreign country and I would have to say it all depends where you live. Some people love Americans and there are others who despise Americans because of propaganda, misrepresentation of our country America. It is easy to fear something you know nothing about and believe what you hear rather than what you personally experience. A lot of the countries I have been to had never been outside of their circle of life and had not been correctly educated by their world about America. The ones who have been taught right were so much nicer to me and wanted to know more America.

I've lived in Germany--Hamburg downtown near the Fachschule and in Argentina--Buenos Aires in Recoleta, where Evita is buried.

Both experiences were valuable. Germany I would do again, Argentina was nerve-wracking because of the leftovers from a repressive past. I kissed the ground when I arrived back in the US when I didn't have to go back anymore.

how about like in Canada, eh? or do you not consider that a foreign country. They say sorry instead of excuse me, go to the washroom not the bathroom, and will stop and hold a door open (even a man for another man) - you don't notice those things until you come home and see that no one else does it.
