To be able to cross-reference... to be able to avoid bad surprises sometimes, to be able to make better democratic votes when you can compare to past experiences. To learn about your ancestry, to measure how far we came from, how much progress we´ve made and sadly how culture is being slowly pushed aside for meaningless mind-numbing shows and activities. History is, I think, very important... even if most of the time it presents the winner´s version.

There are many reasons to learn history.

To learn where we came from to better predict where we are going.

To study the mistakes of the past so they are not repeated in the future. Notice how things keep happening that can be paralleled from history. It is because those involved thought history was unimportant -- and they made the same mistakes.

History can also be learned just for the sake of learning. It is a fascinating subject.

There is a cliched response..... So that you dont repeat your mistakes. But if you ask me, it doesnt hold water, coz humanity has repeatedly made the same mistakes... ironically, history proves this.

What I personally like about history, is the sequence of events that led to the present time and age. It fills me with Awe.
