I made the mistake and filled up my car with 93 ethanol gas when I really should've used 87 grade! Can that ruin my engine?

93 is still unleaded gas, just higher octane.

if it fit in the filler tube, it's the right gas

it will not ruin your engine, but it will run pretty harsh if the car was not meant for that grade of gas. To ease the problem, once you get lower than a 1/4 tank, add 87 octane gas to the car and it whould help dilute the 93 grade and allow the car to run better.

Nah - it won't ruin it. The problem is that if you do it enough times, your car will get used to the good stuff (93 octane) and thumb its nose and the 87 octane later on. One time every once in a while won't do any harm.

Well, putting gasoline on a car is hazardous to yourself and the vehicles paint job.
But putting it into the car, when the manual recommends an lower octane can't really hurt your car. (the manual asks for the min. recommended octane level).
Unless you car is pre-emissions and originally required leaded gas. Then, get some lead additive at your local auto parts counter.

The paint may get messed up. If the hood was closed I don't think it would get ON the engine, unless you were spraying it on the edges of the hood. Gas is supposed to go in the tank only.

All gasoline made today are unleaded. If it did have lead in it,it would be the catalytic converter that would suffer. The lead was used to lubricate the valves.
